Whether it's three inches of powderized, blown-up dirt in a turn that has been punished by a thousand railing rippers over the weekend, or the heavenly loam of an evergreen forest trail, the Maxxis Shorty Tire will dig deep in the soft stuff and get you through to the other side.
The Shorty is based on the custom-cut mud tires of pro DH riders looking for extra traction in loose conditions, but not the maximum rolling resistance that full-on mud spikes impart when it's not muddy. With a big, blocky tread, the Shorty reaches deep and holds on, providing tons of traction in turns or massive stopping power under braking on steep trails. Feel free to run the Shorty as a working-man's mud tire, as its widely-spaced tread will shed soil, and its knobs will provide adequate traction in all but the wettest, deepest mud.
Intended for the biggest bikes on the gnarliest terrain, the Shorty comes equipped with a few gravity-specific features. Sidewall support and protection is prominent. Running a stiff 60 tpi casing lets the Shorty maintain integrity in high-speed corners. Maxxis's dual-ply DH casing with a tough butyl insert also provides structure and resists punctures and cuts.
For loose or blown-out soil, and even mud, the Maxxis Shorty is a confident and versatile downhill performer.
